The Western Orthopaedic Foundation: Strength In Numbers

The Western Orthopaedic Foundation (WOF) is a bold, ambitious extension of the Western Orthopaedic Association (WOA).

The WOA was established in 1932. In 1955, it was incorporated as a not-for-profit 501(c)6 organization, a designation that allows political action on behalf of all members. The WOF was created in 2015 as a 501(c)3 organization with its focus on the advancement of education and research. Consider some of what the Foundation is doing:

1.    WOF manages and distributes the funds for the named research awards given out at the annual meetings: Willingham Award; Lloyd Taylor Award; Vernon Thompson Award; Anzel Award.

2.    Currently, there are 3 Young Investigator Awards and 3 additional WOF Resident/Fellow Awards. Those awards offer naming rights for anyone interested in sponsoring such a spectacular opportunity.

3.    The most recent program under the direction of the WOF began this year. In close collaboration with the OREF, the WOF funds top-tier resident/fellow research. As of 2017, the WOF began annual funding for up to 3 such stellar grants.

Stay tuned for further information and announcements about ways in which the WOF is working hard to promote the science and art of our profession..

Thanks, Jeff ! Yes, this is a terrific way for all of us to give back to the profession and to those who follow us. They are the ones who will do the cutting-edge, innovative research and lead us into the future. I encourage everyone to donate to the level that feels best and as individual circumstances allow. Every gift is cherished and helps immensely. Bob
