Richard Haynes MD to be Honored with Filler Award

The 2017 WOA Blair Filler Lifetime Achievement Award will honor Richard (Dick) Haynes MD for his distinguished career of leadership, service, and education. Dr. Haynes and Sherri, his wife, will be honored Saturday, August 5th at our WOA Annual Meeting gala dinner in Kauai.

A medical school graduate of UC San Francisco, Dick finished his residency training at Letterman Army Medical Center before completing fellowships in pediatric and arthroplasty surgery.  His amazing career spans service in military, academic, and private practice settings; including leadership positions in 8 different orthopaedic residencies. His many contributions to our literature focus on pediatric orthopaedic surgery and professional training.  

Dr. Haynes served as WOA President in 2005 at a particularly difficult and critical time in our history. Other leadership positions include POSNA, AAP, Shriners, SOA, AOA, AAOS, ABOS and ACGME. He has been a mentor to countless younger orthopaedic surgeons.

Dr. Blair Filler stated: “I do not know of many orthopaedic surgeons who have been as heavily involved in academics, resident education, patient care and surgery and at the same time evaluating and participating in orthopaedic programs overseas. Dick is a unique example of complete devotion and involvement in his chosen life-time endeavor.”
